Constraints on the lunar core viscosity from tidal deformation

چکیده
We use the tidal deformations of Moon induced by Earth and Sun as a tool for studying inner structure our satellite. Based on measurements degree-two Love numbers k2 h2 dissipation coefficients from GRAIL mission, Lunar Laser Ranging Altimetry board LRO spacecraft, we perform Monte Carlo samplings 120,000 possible combinations thicknesses viscosities two classes lunar models. The first one includes uniform core, low viscosity zone (LVZ) at core-mantle boundary, mantle crust. second has an additional core. All models are consistent with total mass well its moment inertia. By comparing predicted observed parameters find that existence core cannot be ruled out. Furthermore, deducing temperature profiles LVZ Earth-like mantle, obtain stringent constraints radius (500 +- 1) km, viscosity,21 (4.5 0.8) x 10^16 Pa.s density (3400 10) kg/m^3 LVZ. also infer estimation outer viscosity, (2.07 1.03) 10^17 Pa.s, different structures: 70 km thick large (290 6000 kg/m3), thicker (169 thick) but denser smaller (219 8000 kg/m^3).

Geological Constraints on Tidal and Rotational Deformation on Europa
Europa surface spectra reveal that its main constituents are in the form of ices. Between them frost H2O [1] is dominant although traces of CO2 [2], SO2 [3][4], O2 [5] and H2O2 [6] have also been found. Other compounds found mainly in the darker regions are hydrated materials [7][8]. Europa is located inside the intense magnetosphere of the giant Jupiter. The magnetosphere is populated by proto...
متن کاملGlobal slab deformation and centroid moment tensor constraints on viscosity
[1] We analyze moment tensor solutions from deep subduction zone earthquakes to determine global slab deformation patterns. Inferred strain rates are compared to predicted deformation patterns from fluid models to help constrain the first‐order radial and lateral viscosity structure of the Earth. While all slabs that reach the lower mantle are compressed at their tip, intermediate depth pattern...
متن کاملConstraints on shallow mantle viscosity from morphology and deformation of fast‐spreading ridges
[1] We show that the morphology and the deformation of a fast spreading ridge constrain shallow upper mantle viscosity. A fast spreading center is simulated in a numerical model that couples tectonic deformation due to plate spreading and periodic dike emplacements. The amount of magma intruded into dikes or extruded is enough to make a 7 km thick crust and the axial lithosphere is fixed at ∼2 ...
